Handball!
Football's law-making body is set to bring in what is described as the 'biggest change to the handball law' for 80 years.

The rule will see accidental handballs penalised in 'certain circumstances' such as when it leads to a goal.

Surely this makes this more of a grey area?

Agree 100% with this. It will just encourage players to attempt to flick the ball to hand rather than, I don’t know, trying to pass or shoot or actually play football.

Spot on Helmut, you’ve obviously been to Goodison and heard those whinging toffees wanting a pen in their own half😤😤

Re: Handball!
I think they should use the Everton method, when the ball goes anywhere near an opposition player shout "handball" and expect the referee to give a penalty or free kick.

Re: Handball!
So still give penalties against us, but not for us...and make sure the opposite applies to Liverpool and Man U. Yes, a truly monumental change...

Re: Handball!
If the ball is deflected it should be handball, accidental or not. I'm pretty sure if you looked back at all the penalties given for handball most would be accidental anyway.
Never seems to be an issue outside the box.

I'd suggest handballs inside the box accidental or not should be blown up for.

____

couldnt agree less. Luis Suarez in his last couple of years perfected the art of flicking a ball directly at a player from point blank range and gettigng penalties- I think he got two against us.

absolute bolllocks unless its hand to ball...

Re: Handball!
I think it should be changed to when the ball hits a players hand the ref should be allowed to give a penalty or free kick to the bigger teams but not to mid table teams and below.

It's what happens now so it might as well be codified.

Re: Handball!
The accidental handball is already a big grey area. Well, its grey in that there will always be a decision to be made as to whether its accidental or intended. So, it really depends onion there is a real benefit from the handball. That should, in theory, be quite straight forward to judge.

Seems reasonable to me.

Re: Handball!
I have thought before that all handball should be penalised. For accidental, it should be an indirect free kick. For deliberate or avoidable, it should be a direct free kick or penalty.
For a reflex action to protect the face/bollocks, maybe treat as accidental.

my point was that that would be the simplest option, a no argument solution, but you seem to want to argue about it, and bring your arse in to it at the same time

"Football is such an uncomplicated game... that's why it's the game of choice for the thickos... like Bolty... so why try and complicate it and make it like Rugby Union... you know the game where all the football thickos have not got a clue as to what is happening in front of their very eyes..."

That's not true, NS. I know exactly what's going on with Rugby Union.

Its a game that was invented by boarding school toffs, giving men/boys a consensual excuse to keep falling on the floor and cuddle eachover.

Unlike, actual boarding school where the men/boys cuddling eachover is more often than not, non consenting.

Just for the record, I don't mind Rugby Union.

Re: Handball!
This rule change is coming in to compensate for all the forthcoming VAR offside goal chalked out for Man Utd that would usually be allowed.
Most defenders automatically put their hands behind their back when defending in the penalty area now. What if it ricochets back and hits their hand..?
"If it hits your hand it's hand ball" my arse!!

Re: Handball!
easiest thing in the world, if it hits your hand its hand ball, no arguments then..it is the players obligation to keep there hands out of the way...incidentally, it is not a foul in hockey to deliberately play the ball onto an opponents foot, the ref may not give it, but it is considered to be part of the game

This just smells, to me, of generating more points to "debate" in the media = more advertising minutes.

The world has lost it's fucking marbles.

Re: Handball!
Not a difficult concept at all.

Field hockey has the equivalent, if a ball hits an outfield player on the foot/leg accidentally. Easily officiated, even by lower level umpires.

Playing a ball onto a players foot deliberately in hockey, to manufacture a foul, is itself a foul. No reason that deliberately kicking a ball onto a players arm in football, can't be a foul.
